3 Steps to Avoid or Manage the Flu

  • Drink hot liquids – this will help to relieve congestion, prevent dehydration and soothe the inflamed membranes that line your nose and throat
  • Apply hot or cold packs around your congested sinuses – either temperature can help to ease your smyptoms
  • Elevate your head - try sleeping with an extra pillow to help drain the congestion so you can sleep better


  • Get stressed – an overload of stress hormones makes it difficult for your body to fight infection
  • Ask your doctor for antibiotics – flu is caused by viruses but antibiotics only work against bacteria
  • Fly unless necessary – the change in air pressure puts an extra strain on your respiratory system
